What this site is
GambleWiki explains gambling terms. One term per page, the answer in the first sentence, then the detail that makes the answer useful — the numbers, where the term comes up, and which similar-sounding term it keeps getting confused with.
It covers poker, casino games, sports betting, racing, lotteries, bingo, slots, card games, the maths of odds and probability, and the vocabulary of the online industry. Roughly eight hundred terms at the time of writing.
It is a reference, not a course. Pages are meant to be read in thirty seconds and left.
Who writes it
One person: me. Fifteen years in casino operations, the last stretch of it in table-games training, where my actual job was explaining house edge and payout structure to people who had never dealt a hand before. If you can explain a two-card total to a nervous trainee on their third day, you can explain it in a paragraph.
I left the industry in 2019 and have not worked for an operator, a supplier or an affiliate since. I do not want that to change, because the moment it does this site stops being worth reading.
Why it exists
Search any gambling term and most of what comes back is written by somebody who is paid when you sign up. The definition is accurate enough, and then it is wrapped in a welcome offer.
A definition should not arrive with a deposit bonus attached. That is the whole idea here.
How it is funded
It isn't. I pay for the hosting, which costs a few pounds a month, and that is the entire budget.
- No advertising, of any kind, including native and in-content.
- No affiliate links, and no outbound links to operators.
- No sponsored pages, paid placements, paid links or gifted content.
- No commercial relationship with any operator, supplier, affiliate or comparison site.
- No newsletter, no accounts, no data collected about you.
What this site is not
It is not advice, and it does not tell you what to bet on. There are no tips, no predictions, no systems and no claims that any approach beats the house, because for commercial games none does — that is what the house edge is.
It is not somewhere to gamble. There is nothing to sign up to and nowhere to deposit.
It is not a legal reference. Gambling law and the rules of individual games vary by jurisdiction and by house, and where a figure depends on which variant you are playing the page says so.
Scope and language
British English, and UK-centred where terminology differs — fractional odds get explained alongside decimal and American, and the regulator referred to is the Gambling Commission unless a page says otherwise.
Where a term means different things in different games, the page covers each meaning rather than picking the most popular one and hoping.
