Rummy hands

Rummy hands are the dealt card holdings in rummy-style games, where players draw and discard to form melds—sets or runs—from the cards in hand.

Hand size: Varies by variant: 14 cards in Hand rummy, 13 cards in Indian rummy¹²
Rounds: Hand rummy is played over seven rounds¹
Melds: Sets (same rank) or runs (same suit, consecutive ranks)¹³
Going out: A player wins by melding all cards or meeting the variant's declared hand condition¹²

Key points

Rummy hands refer to the cards a player holds at any point, not the physical act of dealing.
Some variants award a special bonus when a player melds the entire hand in one turn, known as a 'full hand' or 'Hand-Rummy'¹².
In Hand rummy, the game consists of seven rounds, and each round uses a different contract for what constitutes a valid hand¹.
