Baccarat draw rules

Baccarat draw rules are the fixed rules that decide whether the Player and Banker hands get a third card.

Natural
If either side has 8 or 9, both hands stand.2
Player draw
Player draws on 5 or less, stands on 6 or 7.12
Banker draw
If Player stands, Banker draws on 5 or less, stands on 6 or 7. If Player draws, Banker uses a conditional tableau.1

Key points

  • After the initial deal, the game checks for a natural 8 or 9; if present, no third card is drawn.12
  • The Player's total is tested first; that decision determines whether the Banker uses the simple standing rule or the conditional banker tableau.12
  • When the Player draws, the Banker's action depends on the Banker total and the Player's third card: e.g., Banker 0–2 draws always, Banker 3 draws except against a Player third card of 8.1
